Comments:

Knoppix is a really sweet Linux distribution that runs off of a cdrom. Just stick the cd in the drive, reboot, and watch it boot up...auto-configuring all you hardware on the fly!

It is really great of demoing/trying Linux without having to go through an actual install. No messing with partitions, deciding what packages to install, just boot and run. It is also works well as a recovery cd.

Lets say you somehow manage to really fsck up your system and it won't boot, Windows or Linux, and you want to retrive your some of your files. With Knoppix you can easily mount you existing partitions and save your files to disk or ftp them to another computer! You could also technically edit files (maybe your Xconfig, or lilo/grub configs) and fix whatever problem you might have.

For running off the cd it was fairly responsive, even running OpenOffice (after it started) was good. One thing I really thought was cool is that the cursors are not your usual arrows, though unfortunatly they don't show up in any of the screenshots (you will have to run it for yourself to see!).
