One App at a Time…

As most of you have probably already seen Nero has released a Linux version of its CD burning software, NeroLINUX, and Adobe has sort of released an updated version of its PDF viewer, Acrobat 7 (you can grab it HERE).

Most Linux users are going to say, or are saying, we don’t need NeroLINUX we have K3b (or insert favorite Linux cd-burning software here) and we don’t need Acrobat 7 we have Evince (or insert favorite Linux PDF viewer here)! While I don’t disagree, I am more than happy with my Linux alternatives, I also see the situation another way…as more of these types of applications become available, Linux on the desktop becomes that much more viable, one app at a time.

Interestingly enough, while writing this I noticed on the K3b website that Lacie has sponsored development by providing them with a USB DVD burner, a Firewire 8x DVD burner, and a DVD+R Double Layer burner along with plenty of media for testing so that they can integrate DVD+R DL burning into K3b! It also states that Lacie will officially support Linux in the future using the power of K3b.
