Installations (Xandros 3 - CentOS 4)

This weekend I took time to install Xandros 3 (Open Circulation Edition) and CentOS 4. I have to admit that I wasn’t extremely impressed with Xandros 3. Not much different compared to version 2 which I reviewed here: Xandros 2.0 - Standard Edition. XFM, their “proprietary” file manager, is still somewhat impressive though not a lot has changed. This seems to have been mostly an update release. Most apps have been updated to their most recent (or reasonably recent) versions.

CentOS 4, the community rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, was the next install I took a look at this weekend. I was more impressed with CentOS than I was of Xandros, though there really is no comparing the two since they target different markets. Performace seemed much better than Xandros. I am thinking about installing CentOS 4 on several servers at work.
