CPLUG Security Conference 2005

Several weeks ago I attended the CPLUG Security Conference. I found it to be very well run, especially considering several cirucumstances. (1) it was the first one, so you are never sure what to expect. (2) it was run and organized by the local LUG, I have been to events run by other LUG’s in the past and this one was among the best.

There were several good presentations. Two in particular were by Russell Coker, from Red Hat, on “SELinux” and the other by Brandon Hale, a Gentoo developer, on “Advanced Memory Protections with Linux”. Trooper Jon Nelson of the Philly LUG also gave a good presentation on computer crime law. One of the more entertaining, yet informational, presentations was given by Marcus Ranum on “System Logging Tools and Tricks for Geeks”.

At the conference I ran into fellow Penn Staters Derek Morr and Jeff D’Angelo who were there as the leaders of the “Web of Trust” BOF. It’s always nice to catch up with old friends.

The presentations have all been posted on the conference website and can be found Here!

I have noticed that several other members of the CPLUG have posted pictures so I decided I would link to them here:

Overall I think it was a good event and looking foward to seeing what they come up with for next year.
